One person injured when fire breaks out at oil refinery in Carson

One person suffered minor burns Monday in an explosion and fire at an oil and chemical storage terminal in Carson.

Firefighters sent to the 2000 block of Sepulveda Boulevard at 5:40 a.m. extinguished the flames in about a half hour, the Los Angeles County Fire Department reported.

The explosion and fire at the Kinder Morgan terminal occurred as jet fuel was being loaded into a tanker truck at the facility, fire officials said.

One person, possibly the truck's driver, was hospitalized. Three other people were evaluated by paramedics at the scene but they did not require hospitalization, according to the fire department.

The cause of the explosion and fire was under investigation.
