Officers serving warrants in Azusa area fired upon but not injured, police say

Officers serving warrants in a gang investigation in the Azusa area Thursday came under gunfire from a suspect in a residence, but no one was injured, authorities said.

A Pomona police SWAT team was assisting Azusa police in the operation near the 5500 block of Lark Ellen Avenue about 4:45 a.m. when the incident occurred, according to the Pomona Police Department. One or more officers may have returned fire, according to reports from the scene.

A number of people came out of the residence and were taken into custody for questioning, and police determined after about three that no one else was inside.

It was not immediately known if the suspect who fired shots at officers was in custody, police said.
