Officer-involved shooting in Porter Ranch, investigation underway

An investigation is underway Thursday into an officer-involved shooting in a gated community in Porter Ranch.

Officers received a call around 10:40 p.m. Wednesday of a domestic disturbance in the 20000 block of Sardinia Avenue and found a woman who had been stabbed and a man holding a sharp object, according to Officer Christopher No of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Section.

"The officers then were approached by the suspect, a male who was armed with a knife,'' LAPD Sgt. Barry Montgomery said. "After numerous commands to drop that knife, the suspect failed to comply. That's when officers deployed a beanbag (weapon) and a taser, both of which proved ineffective.

"At some point, the suspect advanced on officers, and that's when the officer-involved shooting occurred,'' Montgomery said.

The suspect and the victim were taken to a hospital, and both were listed in stable condition, Montgomery said. It's unclear what the relationship is between the man and woman.

No officers were hurt in the incident.
