New bill would close loophole on raping unconscious women

Rape is rape.That's the bottom line to a new state law that has hit Governor Brown's desk.

Legislators trying to close a serious loophole on sexual assault.

Under current law whether or not force was used to rape someone dictates the sentence handed down.

Which is why Stanford swimmer Brock Turner was only given six months in jail and three years probation for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman behind a dumpster.

The new law makes it clear that it's rape or sexual assault whether or not force was used or the victim was awake.
