Mountain lion cub on the mend after Thomas Fire moves into new home

A mountain lion cub burned in a Ventura County wildfire in December arrived at his new home in Petaluma today.

Fish and Wildlife rescuers delivered him to the Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue on Thursday. 'Charlie' was found thin and hungry with burned paws after the Thomas Fire in the Los Padres National Forest.

Once he gets used to his new surroundings, he'll probably share an enclosure with another orphaned cub named, Nicole at the wildlife rescue.

Rescuers say Charlie was so young when he lost his mother, his chances of survival were slim.

"Imagine losing your mother in a fire, being injured; in constant pain. This kitten's only five-months-old," said Doris Duncan from Sonoma Co. Wildlife Rescue.

Veterinarians used a special technique to help him heal, bandaging his burned paws with the skin of Tilapia fish.

The center says visitors will be able to see both cubs during tours of the center not too long from now.
