Mother, two children stabbed during Costa Mesa home burglary

A mother and her two sons, including an 11-year-old, were stabbed Tuesday in Costa Mesa and police had the suspect in custody.

Officers were dispatched around 7:30 p.m. to an apartment complex in the 1900 block of Wallace Avenue where they found the mother and her children in their home suffering from stab wounds, according to Costa Mesa Police
Department Lt. Greg Scott.

All three were rushed to nearby hospitals, Scott said.

The 11-year-old was undergoing exploratory surgery to determine the extent of his injuries, Scott said.

Police did not release the age of the other son but news media outlets reported he was 17-years old. The conditions of the victims were not immediately released.

Officers arrested a male suspect at the scene and one officer sustained a minor injury while placing the suspect under arrest, Scott said.

No other known suspects are outstanding at this time, Scott said.

Scott did not disclose why the suspect was in the victims' home but news media outlets reported the victims walked in on him burglarizing the residence.
