Mother: Neighbor shot son 9 times during argument
DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - Police are looking for a man accused of shooting a father nine times outside his home Sunday in Stone Mountain.
Officers identified the victim as 26-year-old Christopher Payne.
Payne's mother, Shirley Clayton, said the shooting left her son in critical condition at Wellstar Atlanta Medical Center.
Clayton told FOX 5 Payne put on a fireworks show Saturday evening for children in his neighborhood, located on Prince of Wales. She said after that, things turned sour between Payne and his neighbor.
According to Clayton, the neighbor shot her son nine times during a disagreement. Payne's wife, two teenagers and 11-month-old baby were inside the house at the time, according to Clayton. They weren't injured in the shooting and are now praying for his recovery.
"If he only had 55 cents, he would give you 50 cents and keep the nickel for himself," Clayton said as she described her son. "That's the type of man he is."
Officers said the suspect left the scene in a dark-colored Chevrolet.
