Missing Oklahoma mother, daughter last seen in El Monte

Its been eleven days since Amanda Kay Key, 40, and her daughter Haley Vilven,11, went missing.

The last communication the mother had with family members was through text message, according to her father Steven Jindra.

"I'm extremely worried because she sounded very despondent and I'm not sure of her mental state right now and she's got her daughter," Jindra said.

Key has been diagnosed with bi-polar disorder, but has been taking medication, according to Jindra.

"I don't think she would be suicidal, but she could very easily put herself and her daughter in a situation that wouldn't be safe," he said.

Key and her daughter were on their way to California from Oklahoma when the car they were traveling in broke down.

Jindra said they boarded a bus to make the rest of the journey and a friend of Key told him they were last heard from at the El Monte bus station.

Jindra is here from Texas to search for his daughter and granddaughter.

He's pleading for their safe return.

Anyone who has seen either Key or her daughter or has information regarding their whereabouts was urged to call the LAPD's Missing Persons Unit at (213) 996-1800.

After-hours or on weekends, calls should be directed to (877) LAPD-24-7.
