Massive South LA water main break leaves businesses without water

A massive water main break has left 16 businesses in south Los Angeles without any water service for much of the day.

DWP officials say a 24 inch pipe burst near the intersection of Manchester Avenue and Hoover Street at around 3:30 Sunday morning.

It sent torrents of water flooding down Manchester for at least a quarter of a mile before workers were able to turn off the main valves.

DWP anticipated having the water service restored by 5pm Sunday, but at 4:30 p.m., a worker told FOX 11 he doesn't think that's going to happen.

The pipe was built in 1922, and it wasn't immediately clear what caused the water main to break.
