Man Wanted In Bank Robbery, Carjacking Killed In Officer Involved Shooting

The shooting occurred at the end of a chase after the suspect had robbed the Pacific Premier Bank and then carjacked a vehicle around 4:05 p.m., according to the Corona Police Department.
Officers were able to locate the vehicle through an electronic tracking beacon hidden among the stolen cash, The Press-Enterprise reported on its website.
Corona officers pursued the vehicle into Chino, where it crashed through plastic barriers on section of road closed for construction before crashing again near the intersection of Euclid Avenue and Pine Street, police said.
The officer-involved shooting then occurred.
Corona police and California Highway Patrol officers opened fire, according to The Press-Enterprise Corona officers had fired the fatal shots, Corona Police Department Sgt. Paul Mercado said.
A videographer at the scene said the carjacked vehicle was a Honda van, and the suspect had died next to it.
The amount of money taken from the bank was not known, Mercado said. No one was injured at the scene of the shooting, or at the location of the bank robbery, police said.
The shooting was being investigated by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Specialized Investigations Unit, police said.
