Man shot outside downtown liquor store during argument

A man who might have been drinking and arguing with people outside a liquor store in downtown Los Angeles was fatally shot and the gunman remains at large this morning, a Los Angeles police lieutenant said.

The shooting took place outside a liquor store near a Shell gas station at the intersection of Central Avenue and Washington Boulevard at about 10:25p.m. Tuesday, said LAPD Lt. Ellis Imaizumi, watch commander at Newton Division.

"There were reports the man may have been drinking and arguing with some people outside the liquor store before the shooting," Imaizumi said.

"Obviously, he got someone very upset."

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by fire department paramedics, according to Imaizumi.

The shooter fled the scene but Imaizumi said detectives were reviewing security video at the scene and hope to get a description of the suspect.
