Major connector on Pasadena 210 Fwy will be closed overnight for 4 months

A major connector along the Foothill (210) Freeway in Pasadena will be closed most overnights for the next four months, as an ambitious repaving project targets the narrow tunnel that links two segments of the 210 in downtown Pasadena.

Other overnight freeway closures were also scheduled this week --weather permitting -- in Montrose, Calabasas and Norwalk, Caltrans warned on Sunday.

The eastbound Foothill (210) Freeway will see major traffic restrictions and closures from Lowell Street near Altadena through the connector tunnel up to the 134 merge, ending at Lake Street.

Motorists will see four lanes of the eastbound 210 closed, starting at 7 p.m., on Monday through Friday nights.

The tunnel connector that funnels the eastbound 210 through the interchange of the 210 and 134 freeways will be closed to all traffic at 10p.m. Monday through Thursday, and will close on Fridays at 11 p.m.

Several smaller ramps in the interchange will also close, but the eastbound 210 is the only all-lane closure. Westbound 210 traffic to the 134 and westbound 210 connectors will also see major lane reductions, but no complete closure.

All of the plans were tentative and dependent on good weather, Caltrans warned. Daytime ramp closures were also possible.

In nearby Montrose, overnight ramp closures will block traffic from the northbound Glendale (2) Freeway to both directions of the 210 starting at about 7 p.m. both nights.

Numerous on-ramps and off-ramps on the 2, 134, and 210 freeways will accompany the major freeway shutdowns. The closures are scheduled to end at 5 a.m. the next mornings, but Caltrans warned their contractors and crews sometimes finish late.

In southeast Los Angeles County, the northbound Santa Ana (5) Freeway will be closed late tonight and Monday night from Norwalk Boulevard to the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway. The closures will last from midnight to 5 a.m. the next morning, and traffic can detour via the 91 and 605 freeways.

If that work is finished quickly, southbound 5 traffic will be blocked at the 605 interchange Tuesday or Wednesday nights.

And in Calabasas, the northwest-bound Ventura (101) Freeway will be closed at the Malibu Canyon-Las Virgenes Road exit on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, for bridge construction. Traffic can detour via Agoura Road, next to the freeway, but heavy delays can be expected.
