Long Beach suffers yet another power outage amid heat wave

A peak of 1,093 customers in Long Beach were without electricity Tuesday night because of two outages.

There were 832 customers without power as midnight approached, Susan Cox of Southern California Edison said.

Both outages involved equipment problems, according to SCE.

The first outage began about 4:25 p.m. in the area of North Colorado Place, Cox said. "This outage was not on the network that had an extended outage last month in Long Beach," she said.

The second outage began about 5:50 p.m., Cox said. "This outage involved multiple spans of bad underground cable and our repair crews are beginning to make the necessary repairs," she said. "This cable problem was centered at 2780 Santa Fe Ave."

"We are making repairs and slowly bringing customers back on line. I just can't give a firm (estimated time) when all the repairs will be completed."
