Long Beach man dies from injuries after confronting break-in suspect

A 66-year-old Long Beach man has died from his injuries after being attacked in his own home.

Investigators say Lewis Haller, 66, suffered injuries to his upper torso after confronting a man that had broken into his home on Feb. 5, 2019 at about 9 p.m. The suspect ran away before police arrived.

Long Beach firefighters treated Haller for his injuries at his home in the 800 block of Alamitos Avenue but checked himself into the hospital the following day, according to police.

Due to the severity of the injuries, homicide detectives began working the case. Sadly, on Feb. 12, the Long Beach Police Department was notified that Haller had died from his injuries.

The suspect is described as a black male adult in his 40's, approximately 6-feet tall with a large build and wearing a light-colored top with dark jeans and shoes.

Anyone with information regarding this homicide investigation is urged to contact Long Beach Police Homicide detectives Michael Hubbard and Adrian Garcia at 562-570-7244.
