The investigation began when several students reported inappropriate conduct from a staff member at the school. As soon as detectives became involved, they worked to ensure that the staff member was not in contact with the students.
The alleged conduct was initially reported to the sheriff's department, but when it was determined that the crimes occurred in Tujunga, the Los Angeles Police Department's Sexually Exploited Child Unit took over the case.
