LOS ANGELES - Councilman Gil Cedillo's office provided funding on Tuesday for 200 loads of laundry and detergent at Desi's Coin Laundry for low-income families living in his district.
A partnership with Desi's, using council discretionary funds, provided free laundry services and detergent to 100 families living in the East Los Angeles area who are struggling financially during the pandemic.
"Desi's Coin Laundry is grateful for the opportunity to work with Councilman Cedillo's office to help those in our neighborhood who are most in need during this pandemic," said owner Marc Tavakoli.
"We have always tried to be a part of the community and we are grateful to our customers for the years of loyal support."
According to Cedillo's office, the councilman has worked to provide"rapid response relief" to people living in his district during the COVID-19pandemic, arranging for more than 150,000 hot meals, 10,000 face masks, 2,460 gallons of sanitizer, 7,000 diapers and 500,000 pounds of produce for constituents.
"This pandemic has brought forth and fostered many new partnerships, like the one we have created with Desi's Coin Laundry today," Cedillo said.
"This dark moment has brought out the best in us because it is through community partnership that we can maximize our efforts in providing for thosewho are most in need during these unprecedented times."
