It may be the final 'straw' for California

In a party line vote the state Senate approved a bill Thursday that would ban full-service restaurants from providing plastic straws unless a customer requests one.

Originally, The bill would have applied to all restaurants.

But it was amended to exclude fast-food restaurants. Where the bulk of plastic straws are handed out.

Environmentalists hope the bill will lead to an outright ban.

The bill now goes to Governor Jerry Brown.
