Inner city teens explore technology to better their SoCal communities

They are young, bright and ready to conquer the world.

Inner-city teens with big dreams are learning to code in order to create new technology that will better their communities. As part of a hands-on program called TXT, or Teens Exploring Technology, kids from areas like South Central Los Angeles are staying away from trouble and learning to be leaders, creators and innovators.

Anthony Ramirez, 16, saw a problem in his neighborhood.

"We saw there was a huge amount of teen pregnancies and a lot of teen STDs," Ramirez said. "I worked on a product known as Safe Zone. It's an app that is meant for teens 14 to 19 to connect them to a doctor so they can talk about sexual health."
