In Studio With Empire Songwriter Sixx John

The inside scoop from Sixx John:

Sixx John says he was a fan of Empire. He'd watch season one and think, "I should write for that show." Now he is. Sixx John is one of the show's songwriters on season two. The hit "Ain't About The Money" is on his list of credits.

Call it a Hollywood dream job. He got the job when singer Ne-Yo was brought onto the show by Executive Producer Lee Daniels.

Sixx John was on Ne-Yo's tour for years.

Making music came early on for Sixx John. His real name is Sixx Johnson and grew up in San Fernando Valley. He says his family was always singing and dancing. He wrote his first song at 10 years old.

In high school he played basketball and would freestyle rap in the cafeteria. His big break came when he was signed to the same label as Shaquille O'neal. Sixx John says the Los Angeles Laker turned rapper asked to hear some of his verses.

By the way Sixx John is still into basketball. He is an assistant coach at Bishop Alemany High School. He says he was about to take a job coaching in China the very day Ne-Yo called for the show Empire.
