Hit-and-run leaves 72-year-old woman severly injured

Police hoping to track down a hit-and-run driver released graphic video on Friday of a 72-year-old woman being run over and severely injured by a car in a Van Nuys parking lot last month.

WARNING: The video is disturbing to watch.

The woman was walking across the lot in the 15000 block of Sherman Way when a man drove a blue sedan backward and struck her about 1:20 p.m. on Oct. 17, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

``The suspect continued in reverse and ran over the victim, causing serious injuries,'' according to an LAPD statement.

``The suspect fled the scene failing to identify himself and render aid.''

The driver was described as black, about 6 feet tall and weighing around 180 pounds. He was wearing blue jeans and a blue-and-yellow shirt.

The car was a blue, four-door Audi, possibly a 2005 model, that had prior damage to its front passenger side.

Anyone with information that could help investigators identify and locate the driver was urged to call detectives with the LAPD's Valley Traffic Division at (818) 644-8037 or (818) 644-8021.

After-hours and weekend calls should be directed to (877) LAPD-24-7.
