Hesperia resident shoots home invasion suspect

A homeowner in Hesperia shot an alleged intruder several times Monday night as the residents- including four children- slept inside, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

The suspect, who has been identified as 18-year-old Andres Sanchez, was shot several times in the upper body as the homeowner presumably tried to protect his family.

Authorities were called to a burglary in progress around 10:30 Monday night when the homeowner and his family were sleeping and heard the door being forced open, according to officials.

That's when authorities say the homeowner rushed to the front door and confronted the suspect and fired several shots.

It's unclear if the suspect, who is currently in critical condition, was armed.

The homeowner is not being charged at this point and was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
