Helicopter crashes near Oxnard, pilot self-extricates

Emergency crews responded to a helicopter that crash-landed in the area of Victoria Avenue and the Santa Clara River near Oxnard Saturday morning.

The crash was reported shortly before 10 a.m. The pilot was able to self-extricate, according to Ventura County Fire Department. The pilot suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

The Ventura County Sheriff's Office says the helicopter was a crop duster helicopter.

There was a small fire that broke out after the crash but firefighters were able to put it out quickly, according to officials.

No further details were immediately known.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
