Grinch caught on camera stealing custom Christmas decorations from award-winning Downey house
(FOX 11) - A Downey homeowner is furious and asking for the public's help after her surveillance cameras captured a thief stealing her custom, self made "Nightmare Before Christmas" decorations from her yard.
Every year, Nicole Jones and her family spend weeks to create custom Nightmare Before Christmas decorations they place in front of their home to spread holiday spirit throughout the neighborhood near Paramount Blvd. and Gallatin Rd. in Downey.
The home wins city awards for the decorations year after year, and even has its own radio station.
"Everybody in the community just kind of drives by, they stop, take pictures, they get out of their car to take selfies," Jones said.
But last week, just after willing another award, Jones' security cameras caught a thief coming onto her yard and stealing several of her custom decorations.
"Somebody came and stole all of our custom wood pieces that were hand painted," Jones said. "Everything that makes it fun, is missing. It's sad like we try to brighten up the community and like make all the kids happy, and then someone would come and just take that."
The thief got away with 5 custom decorations Jones had made herself, but she says she won't let the thief stop her.
"We'll just do it again, we won't let them take this away, because it brings everyone too much happiness," she said.
Jones told FOX 11 she was told by Downey police there isn't much they can do about the theft because the video is grainy, and there is no license plate for the suspect.
Jones said if the thief returns the stolen items to her porch, no questions will be asked.
