Green sea turtles hatchlings eager to head to ocean
JUNO BEACH, Fla. (FOX 13) - The first hatchlings of green sea turtles for a Florida beach have arrived.
The Loggerhead Marinelife Center said the young ones were born on Tuesday morning on Juno Beach.
"We now have all three species; leatherbacks, loggerheads and greens currently hatching on our 9.5 mile stretch of beach!" the organization wrote on Facebook.
Along with the post, they shared a video showing piles of the baby turtles trying to escape their nesting hole. One was at the sandy edge before falling back onto the backs of its siblings.
The center said their stretch of beach is considered as one of the most densely-populated sea turtle nesting beaches in the world. Currently, they have 10,266 nests.
Nesting season in Palm Beach County runs from March 1 to October 31.
