Former treasurer of Fullerton youth soccer club arrest for embezzling $174K

The former treasurer of a youth soccer club in Fullerton was arrested Wednesday for allegedly embezzling about $174,000 from the organization.

Laura Zellerbach, 41, of Long Beach, was arrested in Lakewood without incident, Fullerton police Sgt. Kathryn Hamel said.

Officials from the Fullerton Rangers Youth Soccer Club called police last May, alleging that at least $30,000 had been stolen from the organization, Hamel said.

Zellerbach served as treasurer for the club from 2012 through 2014, the sergeant said.

Zellerbach was arrested on a warrant accusing her of money laundering, forgery of records, grand theft, misappropriation of property and embezzlement, Hamel said. She was being held in Fullerton's jail in lieu of $250,000 bail, the sergeant said.

Zellerbach, who is scheduled to be arraigned Friday, faces 26 felony counts, according to court records.
