Fitness company fights for industry to be deemed 'essential'
COMPTON, Calif. - A fitness company is spearheading a statewide initiative to demonstrate to Governor Gavin Newsom that fitness is an "essential" business.
24 Hour Fitness is holding free, outdoor pop-up cardio classes across California, as part of “Fitness is Essential” and National Wellness Month to help prove the physical and mental benefits of exercise during this unprecedented health crisis and to ask Newsom to reopen gyms indoors that follow proper safety protocols.

People interested in participating in the campaign are encouraged to share photos of themselves working out on social media, with a message about why fitness is vital to their health, along with the hashtag, #fightforfitness.
Newsom issued a new statewide Stay-at-Home order on July 13 and also called for the immediate re-closure of indoor operations at certain business sectors, including fitness centers, for counties on California's coronavirus "watch list."
