Firefighters discover marijuana growth operation in commercial building

Firefighters in Stanton knocking down a fire on Monday at a commercial building utilized as a muffler shop discovered a marijuana growth operation at the back of the structure, authorities said.

"It was pretty elaborate," Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Jon Muir said.

Firefighters dispatched at 7:23 a.m. to the 8000 block of Katella Avenue had the fire out within 15 minutes of their arrival, Muir said.

A watch commander at the Orange County Sheriff's Department said the building was a muffler shop with about a "quarter" of the structure in the back utilized as a growth operation.

"There was some electrical issues," he added.
