(FOX 11/CNS) - A greater-alarm fire tore through an unoccupied two-story church in Van Nuys this evening, but no injuries were reported.
The fire at The Church On The Way was reported about 6:05 p.m. in the 14300 block of Sherman Way, near Van Nuys Boulevard, according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Flames could be seen burning through the church's roof as firefighters battled the blaze.
More than 100 firefighters responded and knocked down the flames in 48 minutes, although crews continued to address smoldering fire in the building's second-story walls, Stewart said.
The Los Angeles House of Worship Task Force was notified, as is standard in the case of church fires, and an LAFD arson unit responded to the scene, Stewart said.
