Fed-Ex big-rig crash into center divider prompts freeway closure

The Pomona (60) Freeway in Pomona was shut down in both directions this morning after a big-rig struck the center divider, ending up in both the eastbound and westbound lanes, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The accident happened 1:54 a.m., the CHP said. The eastbound Fed Ex big-rig struck the center divider, causing the tractor to wind up on the westbound side while the two trailers remained on the eastbound side.

The freeway was shut down in both directions so tow trucks could pick up the tractor and trailer, the CHP said.

There was a diesel spill on the freeway, which is why all westbound lanes were closed, according to CHP.

The eastbound 60 HOV lane was also closed as a result of the crash, said CHP.

Roads were wet during the time of the accident, but CHP would not say if rain was a factor in the crash.

There were no reports of injuries. Paramedics cleared the scene shortly after arriving, said Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Kyle Sanford.
