Father of NASCAR racer Bobby Gordon found in murder-suicide

The body of a 68-year-old man reported to have been the father of former NASCAR racer Robby Gordon was found inside a home in Orange along with the body of his 57-year-old wife in what appeared Thursday to have been a murder-suicide.

The dead were Robert Gordon and Sharon Gordon, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Department's Coroner Division. According to broadcast reports, Robert Gordon was Robby Gordon's father and Sharon Gordon his stepmother.

The bodies were discovered around 5 p.m. Wednesday in the 1400 block of North Kennymead Street and the cause of their deaths was under investigation, said Orange police Lt. Fred Lopez, adding that there no outstanding suspects.

"We're fairly confident the problem is contained within the house,'' he said.

A weapon was discovered inside the residence, but Lopez did not immediately disclose what it was. Anyone with information on the deaths is urged to call the Orange Police Department at (714) 744-7444.
