Father of 3 killed in South LA hit-and-run crash

LOS ANGELES (FOX 11 / CNS) - A pedestrian killed by a hit-and-run motorist in South Los Angeles while walking in a crosswalk with a green light was identified Sunday.

Alex Perez, a father of three, was celebrating the baptism and birthday of his 1-year-old daughter at the time he was killed. Perez reportedly left the party to get ice a couple of blocks away.

The crash was a little after 9 p.m. Saturday, near 43rd Street and Vermont Avenue, according to a watch commander at the LAPD's South Traffic Division.

Paramedics rushed the pedestrian to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries, he said.

The family said he was planning on proposing to the mother of his children that night.
