Facebook to alert users targeted by government hacks
ATLANTA - Social media platform Facebook plans to warn users whose accounts may have been compromised by government entities.
Starting October 16, 2015 Facebook will notify you if they believe your account has been targeted, or compromised by an attacker suspected of working on behalf of a nation-state.
Facebook believes these types of attacks tend to be more advanced and dangerous than others.
"We strongly encourage affected people to take the actions necessary to secure all of their online accounts," posted Alex Stamos the Chief Security Officer at Facebook.
However, Facebook won't always be able to explain how they attribute certain attacks to suspected attackers.
