El Monte man shot dead by a jealous boyfriend in Ontario, police say

Police in Ontario say a 24-year-old El Monte man was shot several times and killed at a motel by a man believed to have been upset over the relationship the victim had with the suspect's girlfriend.

The shooting happened at the Red Carpet Motel located at 1117 N. Baker Street in Ontario late Saturday morning.

The victim has not yet been identified. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect was identified as 31-year-old Maximino Marcos of Ontario. He was taken into custody Saturday afternoon, March 2.

Authorities say the Ontario Police Department's Multi-Enforcement Unit found Marcos in the city of Montclair at about 3:30 p.m. Saturday where he was arrested. Detectives later recovered a gun believed to have been used in the homicide, police said.

Marcos was booked into West Valley Detention Center.
