Large fire breaks out at former Farmer Johns meat facility in Vernon

A fire ripped through a commercial building in Vernon Thursday, sending thick black smoke into the air.

Firefighters, dispatched at approximately 10:30 a.m. to the fire at South Soto Street and East Vernon Avenue, had the blaze out at approximately 11:15 am., the Los Angeles County Fire Department reported.

No injuries were reported. The building was the former Farmer Johns meat facility, which closed in 2021.

The cause is under investigation.
