Clay Fire breaks out in Riverside County; Evacuation warnings lifted

A fire broke out in Jurupa Valley as the Santa Ana winds continued to linger around Southern California.

The "Clay Fire" was first reported around 5 p.m. on Tuesday, January 21 along the Santa Ana River Bottom near Pedley Road and Van Buren Boulevard. At last check, the fire had stretched just under 40 acres with 40% of the flames contained. 

By late Tuesday night, Cal Fire said the forward progress in the fire stopped. All evacuation warnings have since been lifted.

"Dozer lines and hand crews continued to cut the line overnight. Crews also strengthened containment lines and focused on mop up around the perimeter," Cal Fire explained.

By Wednesday afternoon, the fire was 45% contained. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation. 

Evacuation Orders

  • No evacuation orders have been lifted.

Evacuation Warnings

  • An evacuation was temporarily issued for the area south of Limonite Avenue between Van Buren Boulevard and Beach Street. The warning has since expired.

Roads Closed

  • No road closures were announced.
