The break at 2244 N. Cahuenga Blvd., at Odin Street, was noticed at 3:12a.m., said the Los Angeles Fire Department's Margaret Stewart. There was no damage to neighboring structures, she said. Odin Street was shut down.

The gushing water was from a broken 8-inch main, said the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power's Vonda Paige. The water was turned off in the area, and crews worked to repair the broken pipe.

About 50 customers were affected, the LADWP reported. The estimated completion time is 3 p.m. A second broken 8-inch main left the street soggy in the 4800 block of West Third Street, near Hancock Park, Paige said.

No service was affected and the repair should be complete around 1 p.m.

From Sandra Endo:

Nearly a hundred Hollywood hills residents woke up to no running water Monday morning after a watermain burst on Odin street and Cauhenga at around 230am.

DWP says it was a 1926, eight inch cast iron water main that ruptured causing Odin to buckle and water sent debris and dirt down the road. Crews shut down the main within a few hours and blocked off the street before rush hour.

Area resident Marcy Rosenthal stood outside her driveway and collected the gushing water in trash bins because of the epic drought. "I am going to use it to water my plants and grass. It's such a waste to see all this water pouring down the street."

Kalista Igerashiem lives in the area and says when she woke up at 7a to take a shower, she found out the water was shut off. "It was surprising. Then I looked outside and saw all the water running down the street."

Crews anticipate residents will get water restored by 4pm.
