Boy stabbed at elementary school in Stevenson Ranch

STEVENSON RANCH, Calif. (FOX 11/ CNS) - A 12-year-old boy was stabbed Friday by a classmate inside a Stevenson Ranch elementary school classroom, and other students and a teacher intervened and stopped the attack, sheriff's officials said.
The stabbing occurred about 8 a.m. at Pico Canyon Elementary at 25255 Pico Canyon Road.
The injured sixth-grader was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries, according to the sheriff's department. The other boy, also 12, was detained for questioning.
The students got into a fight in a classroom, and one of them pulled out a knife, a sheriff's spokesman told local media. He described the victim's injuries as ``a couple puncture marks'' that were ``not life-threatening.''
He said fellow students helped pull the victim away and stop the attack. The teacher was able to grab the knife and took the weapon and the boy to the principal's office before deputies arrived, according to reports from the scene.
The school district brought in counselors to talk to students as needed, and sent notices to inform parents about what happened on what was a scheduled early release day at the campus.
