Boy killed, man wounded in Bellflower shooting

Authorities are searching Tuesday for the gunman who killed a 16-year-old boy and wounded a man in his 20s in a shooting in Bellflower.

The double shooting was reported about 8:35 p.m. Monday in the 8600 block of Rose Street, near Downey Avenue and the border with Long Beach, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene and the man was taken to a hospital for treatment, Deputy Jeffrey Gordon of the Sheriff's Information Bureau said. The man was in stable condition and is expected to survive, according to reports from the scene.

Neighbors told news outlets the boy had just celebrated his 16th birthday. The motive for the shooting was not immediately determined.
