Body found on 101 Freeway in Hollywood Hills area

A man died Wednesday of an apparent suicide by jumping from an overcrossing onto the northbound 101 Freeway in the Hollywood Hills area, authorities said.

The man, in his 40s, died at the scene about 5:30 a.m. near Barham Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office and the California Highway Patrol. His name was withheld, pending notification of his relatives.

All northbound freeway lanes were closed for an investigation. Two lanes were reopened about 6:45 a.m., and the remaining lanes were reopened about 90 minutes later, the CHP reported. Traffic was backed up for miles on the 101 in both directions during the morning rush hour.
