Bicyclist hospitalized after being struck by LA County Sheriff's deputy's vehicle

A bicyclist was hospitalized with cuts and bruises after he was struck by a Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy's vehicle in Carson today, authorities said.

Around 6 p.m., the bicyclist, a man in his 40s, was pulling out of a strip mall at 23501 Avalon Blvd. when he was struck by a patrol car heading south, said Lt. Arthur Escamillas of the sheriff's Carson Station.

The man fell off his bike and onto the vehicle's windshield, breaking it, Escamillas said. The man was taken to UCLA Harbor Medical Center with his injuries and was in stable condition, he said.

The collision is under investigation.
