Bernie Sanders continues SoCal campaign with rally, TV appearance

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is scheduled to be interviewed on the HBO talk show "Real Time with Bill Maher'' and hold a late-morning rally at Los Angeles Maritime Museum Friday on the sixth consecutive day he has campaigned in the Southland for the June 7 California primary.

Sanders is expected to discuss the usual themes for his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination at what his campaign has dubbed the "Los Angeles Harbor Unions Rally'' -- getting big money out of politics, making
public colleges and universities tuition free, combating climate change and ensuring universal health care.

Sander's opponent, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, is set to be in Oakland today in what her campaign describes as "a community discussion on breaking barriers and increasing opportunity.''

On Thursday, the 74-year-old Sanders, a self-described democratic socialist who would be the nation's first Jewish president, spoke at a rally at Ganesha High School in Pomona and appeared on the ABC late-night talk show "Jimmy Kimmel Live.''
