Authorities identify Pomona family of four, including pregnant woman and 2 children, killed in crash

A family of four killed in a single-vehicle crash in Merced County near Los Banos was identified on Tuesday.

Samuel Soto, 40, Alondra Lara, 22, Nicolas Soto, 9, and Diego Soto, 2, were all pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Merced County Sheriff's Office. The California Highway Patrol said that Lara was six months pregnant at the time of the crash, her unborn baby did not survive.

The crash took place on Sunday night in the eastbound lanes of State Route 152, just west of State Route 33, according to CHP.

Soto was reportedly driving the family in a Nissan Altima when he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle crossed into the westbound lane of SR-152 and slammed into a tree, according to CHP.

The CHP said that alcohol, drugs and weather conditions did not appear to have been factors in the crash.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
