Attorney denounces LAUSD tactics amid sex abuse case

A recent case of alleged sex abuse involving a LAUSD teacher and a former student has one victim's rights attorney denouncing the district and its legal tactics.

Attorney Luis Carrillo represents a then 16-year-old student who was allegedly groped by her teacher and has since suffered depression and anxiety. He charges the district is blaming the victim and ought to be investigated by the Department of Education for using dirty legal tactics.

FOX 11 received the following statement from LAUSD Chief Communications Officer Shannon Haber:

"The District is not blaming the victim in this trial or in any lawsuit. The District will conduct the trial in a sensitive and respectful manner toward our former student and will present to the jury the evidence that is necessary for the jury to perform its duty. We cannot accurately predict what evidence will be presented. That depends on, among other things, court rulings. We can say, however, that the District does not claim the plaintiff did not suffer trauma or is less traumatized because of prior sexual experience or trauma."
