Attack on gas station clerk in San Bernardino may have been racially motivated

A gas station clerk has severe head injuries, but will survive after a violent attack at a gas station in San Bernardino.

A customer went into the 76 station on Highland Avenue, and demanded free gasoline. When the clerk said no, the man went crazy, knocking over a wine display, and then attacking the clerk, who tried to defend himself with a baseball bat.

The man punched him, hit him over the head with a wine bottle, and then wrestled away his baseball bat and started striking him with that, too.

The gas station owner is afraid the attack may have been racially motivated, as the clerk is a Sikh from India.

Police have not confirmed that, but they say they are still looking for the man who left in a white sedan with several other people inside.

San Bernardino police are hoping someone with info will offer a tip on who this attacker might be.
