7-year-old boy shot in Watts

LOS ANGELES (FOX11) - Investigators with the Los Angeles Police Department were on the scene of a shooting that involved an 8-year-old in Watts Wednesday evening.

Officers surrounded a home in the area of 109th Street and Wilmington Avenue after hearing shots coming from the residence around 7:40 p.m.

Two people were shot and it appears one of the victims was a 7-year-old. The child was taken to a local hospital with gunshot wounds to his lower extremities where he is in stable condition.

Police set up a perimeter to look for the suspect and believe they have him contained, LAPD says.

Police were not able to provide a detailed description of the suspect.

At least one firearm was recovered from the scene, LAPD said.
