50-year old bicyclist killed in hit-and-run crash
A 50-year-old bicyclist was fatally struck in Arleta today by a hit-and-run driver who was later captured by officers, police said.
The accident took place at the intersection of Van Nuys Boulevard and Beachy Avenue, near Arleta High School, around 2 a.m., said an officer at the Los Angeles Police Department's Valley Traffic Division. The cyclist died at the scene, the officer said. His name was withheld pending family notification.
The driver fled the scene but police set up a perimeter and later arrested him, the officer said. He was being treated at a local hospital and had not been booked as of 6 a.m., the officer said.
