5 Freeway reopens at Grapevine after snow, ice cause hours-long closure
LEBEC, Calif. (FOX 11) - The 5 Freeway was back open Monday in the Grapevine area after snow and ice closed the roadway for several hours.
The freeway was reopened around 2:45 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said on Twitter.
The freeway was closed just before 8 p.m. Sunday due to snow and freezing weather, Caltrans said. Both directions were closed from Santa Clarita to Bakersfield.
Crews worked for several hours to clear the highway for drivers.
A Frost Advisory remained in effect through 8 a.m. Monday for area mountain communities.
The I-5 connects Southern California to the Central Valley.
