2 killed, man arrested in suspected DUI crash on 605 Freeway

Two people were killed Monday in a fiery crash on the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway in Norwalk and one man was arrested at the scene, authorities said.

The crash was reported at 1:06 a.m. on the northbound San Gabriel River Freeway at Rosecrans Avenue, California Highway Patrol Officer Tony Polizzi said. Both vehicles involved in the crash -- a car and a minivan -- caught fire.

Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene, Polizzi said. One crash victim was a man. The other was a woman, according to reports from the scene.

Two vehicles were involved in the crash, and the car driver was arrested at the scene on suspicion of DUI, according to reporters at the scene.

A SigAlert was issued at 1:19 a.m. shutting down all northbound lanes at Rosecrans Avenue for the investigation. The two right lanes were reopened at about 4:50 a.m.
