16-year old girl stabbed to death in home, ex-boyfriend sought by police

A 16-year-old girl was stabbed to death early Friday morning in her Pico Rivera home, and authorities were seeking her ex-boyfriend as a possible suspect, officials said.

Deputies were dispatched at 3:15 a.m. to the 9800 block of Shade Lane to investigate the circumstances surrounding the stabbing. Elena Moore died at the scene, said coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter.

According to the preliminary investigation, the girl was stabbed on the first floor of the residence and then ran upstairs, where she collapsed and died, the sheriff's department reported.

Her mother heard her screaming, and called 911, and -- based on information from the mother -- investigators formed the opinion that the suspect is the teen's 17-year-old former boyfriend, Rory Murga, the sheriff's department reported.

The pair broke up about two weeks ago after dating for about a year, according to the department.

Anyone with information about the stabbing is urged to contact the sheriff's department's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
