15-Year-Old Girl Was Driver In Wild Police Chase

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Sheriff's deputies today arrested a 15-year-old girl wanted in connection with a carjacking after she drove through a park and nearly hit a deputy before crashing while being chased in the South Los Angeles area.

The approximately 30-minute pursuit, initially involving personnel from the sheriff's Compton Station, ended about 1:25 p.m. near Willowbrook and Wilmington avenues, according to the sheriff's department.

During the chase, the girl drove a Nissan Altima through Magic Johnson County Recreation Area, leaving the park only to return again before exiting a final time and at one point struck the door of a sheriff's patrol car, narrowly missing a deputy, according to a Compton Station watch sergeant who declined to give his full name.

The car allegedly was carjacked in Los Angeles, the sergeant said.
